AJ Guevara

is a performer, educator, and choreographer, bi-coastally based in New York City and California’s Bay Area. He earned his BFA in Dance & Choreography from Virginia Commonwealth University, with additional  training from the Accademia dell’ Arte (Italy) and the American Dance Festival as a scholarship recipient. 

He has had the privilege of performing the works of Jennifer Archibald, Bill T. Jones, Jodi Melnick, Rachel Erdos, Walter Matteini, Joshua L. Peugh, Arthur Pita, Thomas Noone, Shen Wei, and Jawole Willla Jo Zollar, among others. 

AJ has also danced with AXIS Dance Company, and is a collaborator with chrisbelldances, Susie McHugh & Dancers, The Nash Conspiracy, Cirque du Nuit, and Company|E.

His work with Company|E, in partnership with the US State Department, has allowed him to serve as an Artistic Diplomat for Cultural Exchange in Israel, Cuba, The United Kingdom, Palestine, as well as multiple engagements at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. 

AJ is a dedicated advocate for community action, and works with many organizations, including Gibney and ETD Outreach, bringing awareness to social justice, equitable spaces, and inclusive practices. He’s served as a teaching and performing artist in Mexico, The Netherlands, Uruguay, Switzerland, and domestic engagements across the US.
