Classes for our youngest students are designed to create engaging invitations for students to learn through play! Students have fun while also developing important social skills such as  collaboration, communication, creative problem-solving and self expression. Each session there is a new theme to spark the imagination, creating a fun, new experience each class!

Weekend Classes

Treasure Trunk Theatre: Snow Day!

Get ready to take an imaginative trip! In this class, students will head off on a new adventure each week, inspired by mystery objects found in the treasure trunk. An engaging theme charts the course for a fun-filled journey. This session, students are encouraged to bring their adventurous spirit out to play as they discover all the fun they can have, inside and out, when it snows! A final demonstration for friends and family will take place on the last day of class.

Backstage Adventures: A Year with Frog & Toad

Who makes all those fabulous THINGS seen on stage? In this class, students will be introduced to some of the backstage secrets that result in onstage magic. Imagine. Create. And then Perform! Inspired by the musical A Year with Frog & Toad, based on the popular Arnold Lobel stories, students will design costumes, scenic, and props that bring the world of this musical to life. They will then use their creations as they explore scenes and songs from the show. A final demonstration for friends and family will take place on the last day of class.

Musical Mashups: Celebrating Silly Sidekicks

From under the sea, to enchanted castles, and everywhere in between, the heroes of Broadway’s most popular musicals depend on their second in command. Inspired by the most comical (and loyal) musical theater sidekicks, students will bring these sometimes small, but mighty, characters to life. In this class, students will act, sing, & dance stories while learning appropriate techniques that will enable them to create vivid characters. A final demonstration for family and friends will take place on the last day of class.

Stories on Stage: Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs

Get ready to enter a world where food rains down from the sky! In this class, students will use their actor’s tools (body, mind, voice, and imagination) to create dynamic characters and delicious stories inspired by Judi Barrett’s book Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs. Each week students will deepen their skills as actors as they develop short pieces that are both dramatic and delicious. A final demonstration for friends and family will take place on the last day of class.

Making a Musical: Arctic Antics (Grades Pre-K to 1)

An action-packed week diving into the world of musical theatre by creating a short original musical. Utilizing popular music from across the decades, students will piece together scenes and songs celebrating the amazing creatures found in the “Coolest” places on the planet. While working on their mini-musical, students will advance their acting, singing, and dancing skills. A final demonstration for family and friends will take place on the final day of the program. Students will attend a 1pm matinee performance of our main stage production of Mr. Popper’s Penguins.

Get ready to blast off on an adventure that is out of this world! Inspired by the funny and fantastical retelling of the classic three little pigs story, The Three Little Aliens and the Big Bad Robot, students will work together to imaginatively bring the story from “page to stage”. Through creative movement, imagination, and hands-on art activities, students will travel across the galaxy without ever leaving their classroom on this interactive theatre experience specially designed for our youngest students. A final demonstration for family and friends will take place on the last day of class.

Page to Stage: Time Warp Trio (Grades 1 to 3)

Calling all Time Travelers! Over the course of the week, students will work as playwrights, actors, and designers creating scenes inspired by the Time Traveling (and rib-tickling) Series from award-winning author Jon Scieszka. Students will learn first-hand what it takes to bring a story from page to stage. When in the world will this class take us? A final demonstration for family and friends will take place on the last day of class.
Students will attend a 1pm matinee performance of our main stage production of A Wrinkle in Time.

We will kick-off our summer program with a rousing week-long exploration of the theatrical world of the circus. Professional Boston area circus artists will lead classes each day in circus skills such as clowning, juggling, tumbling, spinning plates, hula hoops, acrobatics, Chinese yo-yo, and more! In partnership with Cirque Us, students will learn the skill and storytelling involved in contemporary circus performance. All together, making for a three-ring circus of an experience!

72 Hour Playmakers!

Let’s make a play! In this program students will act as playwrights, actors, and designers as they work in an ensemble to create world premiere works for the stage! Using their actor’s tools (body, voice, mind, & imagination) students will work collaboratively to create one-of-a-kind theatrical experiences. With limited time & resources, but unlimited imagination, students will put their creativity to the max as they develop and rehearse their plays, with a world premiere performance for families and friends on the final day!

Adventures in Fairy Tale Land

Happily Ever After? In this three-week interdisciplinary theatre arts program, students will bring the stories of their favorite fairy tale characters to life. Through story drama, students will use their bodies, voices, and imaginations to create big, bold characters such as giants and wicked witches, princes, and fairy godmothers. Through exploring the essential elements of fairy tales, students will collaboratively create an original fractured fairytale. Finally, artistic imaginations will come out to play as students design and create simple props, costumes, and scenery to complete their Once Upon a Time world.

This program is a fast-paced intensive for young people ready to take the stage. In three weeks, students will work together to perform a 30-minute version of Annie. While working on this musical, they will advance their acting, singing, and dancing skills while also learning more about production elements such as sets, props, costumes, and sound and light design.

About the show:
Based on the popular comic strip and adapted from the Tony Award-winning Best Musical, with a beloved book and score by Tony Award-winners, Thomas Meehan, Charles Strouse, and Martin Charnin, Annie KIDS features everyone’s favorite little redhead in her very first adventure. With equal measures of pluck and positivity, little orphan Annie charms everyone's hearts despite a next-to-nothing start in 1930s New York City. Annie is determined to find the parents who abandoned her years ago on the doorstep of an orphanage run by the cruel Miss Hannigan. Annie eventually foils Miss Hannigan's evil machinations, finding a new home and family in billionaire Oliver Warbucks, his personal secretary, Grace Farrell, and a lovable mutt named Sandy.

Trick or Treat? A fun and physical introduction to the fundamental building blocks of drama (body, voice, mind, and imagination). Using Trickster Tales as a jumping-off point to spark and support the creative process, the characters will fly off the page as students participate in movement exercises, story reenactments, theatre games, improvisation, role-playing, music, dance, and visual arts.

Through creative movement inspired by cool cats and other favorite pets, students will purr, wag, and wiggle as they explore different ways of moving in a celebration of self-expression. In our Music Movers classes, dancing to the beat of your own drum is encouraged! About the show:
​​Disney’s Finding Nemo KIDS is a 30-minute musical adaptation of the beloved 2003 Pixar movie Finding Nemo, with new music by award-winning songwriting team Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez. Marlin, an anxious and over-protective clownfish, lives in the Great Barrier Reef with his kid Nemo, who longs to explore the world beyond their anemone home. But when Nemo is captured and taken to Sydney, Marlin faces his fears and sets off on an epic adventure across the ocean. With the help of lovable characters such as optimistic Dory, laid-back sea turtle Crush, and the supportive Tank Gang, Marlin and Nemo both overcome challenges on their journey to find each other and themselves.
