Winter 2024 classes start Saturday, January 20 and run for 10-weeks, through Sunday, April 7. Please note, there are no classes February 17, 18, 24, 25.

Treasure Trunk Theatre: Snow Day!
Get ready to take an imaginative trip! In this class, students will head off on a new adventure each week, inspired by mystery objects found in the treasure trunk. An engaging theme charts the course for a fun-filled journey. This session, students are encouraged to bring their adventurous spirit out to play as they discover all the fun they can have, inside and out, when it snows! A final demonstration for friends and family will take place on the last day of class.

Backstage Adventures: A Year with Frog & Toad
Who makes all those fabulous THINGS seen on stage? In this class, students will be introduced to some of the backstage secrets that result in onstage magic. Inspired by the musical A Year with Frog & Toad, based on the popular Arnold Lobel stories, students will design costumes, scenic and props that bring the world of this musical to life. A final demonstration for friends and family will take place on the last day of class.

Musical Mashups: Celebrating Silly Sidekicks
From under the sea, to enchanted castles, and everywhere in between, the heroes of Broadway’s most popular musicals depend on their second in command. Inspired by the most comical (and loyal) musical theater sidekicks, students will bring these sometimes small, but mighty, characters to life. In this class, students will act, sing, & dance stories while learning appropriate techniques that will enable them to create vivid characters. A final demonstration for family and friends will take place on the last day of class.

Stories on Stage: Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs
Get ready to enter a world where food rains down from the sky! In this class, students will use their actor’s tools (body, mind, voice, and imagination) to create dynamic characters and delicious stories inspired by Judi Barrett’s book Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs. Each week students will deepen their skills as actors as they develop short pieces that are both dramatic and delicious. A final demonstration for friends and family will take place on the last day of class.

Actor's Toolbox: Scene Study, New Worlds
Get ready to explore new worlds, beyond our own! Our Actor’s Toolbox series engages students in the creative process and supports their growth as actors, individually and in an ensemble. In Scene Study, New Worlds, students will learn how to unpack the “given circumstances” of a scene, and deepen their understanding of how to use CROW (character, relationship, objective, & whereabouts) to create realistic characters in vivid, and other worldly settings. Each week students will work collaboratively to explore original as well as scripted work that stretches their skills as actors. A final demonstration for family and friends will take place on the last day of class. We recommend students take this class if they’ve taken Actor’s Toolbox: Fundamentals of Acting or have previous experience

Musical Theatre Revue: Rotten to the Core
Inspired by the most dastardly (and delightful) Musical Theatre villains, students will have great fun bringing those characters to life who are “rotten to the core.” In Musical Theatre Revue students will deepen their skills as performers as they work collaboratively to develop a musical revue of scenes and songs. Each week students will use solo, small-group, and ensemble work, to learn how to create characters and expand their theatrical storytelling techniques. A final demonstration for family and friends will take place on the last day of class. We recommend this class for students who have taken Fundamentals of Musical Theatre or with previous musical theatre experience.

Theatre Design: Scenic Design & Painting (Grades 6 to 12)
Creating the world of the play is more than meets the eye. In Theatre Design: Scenic Design & Painting students will deepen their understanding of how to approach the scenic design process while practicing important technical skills required of the best designers in Boston & beyond! Each week students will be introduced to key concepts of design, with a focus on practical application, utilizing stories, plays & musicals as the subjects of their exploration. A final demonstration for family and friends will take place on the last day of class.

Before that first rehearsal every actor needs to audition. In Auditioning for Stage & Screen, students go through the audition process from monologue selection and development, to cold readings and understanding what happens in an audition, to creating self-tapes.
