ADA 30-Year Anniversary & Invite for Accessibility Feedback

Greetings Wheelock Family Theatre Community,

Today marks the 30 year anniversary of signing the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) into law. Wheelock Family Theatre is proud to support this important civil rights legislation that prohibits discrimination against individuals with disabilities in all areas of public life, including jobs, schools, transportation, and all public and private places that are open to the general public. The purpose of the law is to make sure that people with disabilities have the same rights and opportunities as everyone else. Celebrate with us by visiting: www.adaanniversary.org/
In honor of this 30 year anniversary, Wheelock Family Theatre is taking this opportunity to learn. We invite you to join us for a virtual listening session on accessibility on August 19, 2020 7:00pm-8:00pm. We hope to hear from you — our artists, audiences, teachers, students, and families— how we can improve our accessibility efforts in order to ensure that all are welcome at our theatre.
Members of the Wheelock Family Theatre staff will facilitate by asking questions, listening, and taking careful notes. In order to stay in the receptive learning zone, we specifically will not use this time to respond to feedback or share our own opinions.
To give you a glimpse into this virtual listening session, the following is a list of questions we might ask.
  • What barriers to participating in a performance/class have you experienced in the past at Wheelock Family Theatre?
  • What are opportunities for Wheelock Family Theatre to grow or change its accessibility efforts onstage and in the classroom?
  • What question(s) have we not asked the group that you would love to either answer or ask of the group?

All are invited. Click here to RSVP.

This event will be ASL interpreted. To request other accessibility accommodations, please email Jamie Aznive, Audience Services Manager (jaznive@bu.edu). If you are not available for this listening session or would prefer to email your feedback, please feel free to reach out to Emily Ranii, Artistic Director (eranii@bu.edu).
