July Flew By!

July has come and gone!

Our July programming has been so fun! This also means that we have completed Act One of our programming. We’ve had multiple one-week programs such as Stage Combat and Music Movers, and our three-week programs like Roald Dahl’s Willy Wonka, that just put on their shows!

July 17 – 21

Music Movers: Planes, Trains & Automobiles:

Students used their imaginations to move as different vehicles using rhythm and musical dynamics such as loud/soft.

Backstage Adventures: Seuss on the Loose:

Making scenic, props, and costumes was a blast for our students as they designed using the inspirations of Seuss.

Making a Scene: Devising, Directing & Acting:

Having the freedom to create their own scenes, students were able to be creative without the limitations of a script because they were the ones making it!

Musical Theatre Bootcamp:

While developing their technique, students learned songs, scenes, and dances from popular musicals.

July 24 – 28

Story Explorers: Stories of Mo Williams:

Students explored the wonderful works of Mo Williams by traveling inside of his work! By working together and using their imagination, our students created a wonderful piece of theatre that showcased all they learned.

Sing & Dance a Story: Into the Wild:

By “moving it”, students brought a story to life and learned how to dance a story using their posture, gestures, and voices to portray characters.

Musical Theatre Bootcamp:

Students acted, danced, and sang their way through musicals of all genres.

July 10 – 28

Mini Musical: Seussical KIDS:

In just three weeks, our young students were able to produce a whole 30-min musical while also learning all about the technical elements that happen on stage as well. Students put on an incredible production of fan favorite, Seussical! They showed off their dance and singing skills that they developed over the three weeks with their teachers!

Playmakers: Pandora’s Socks:

Students in Pandora’s Socks took their comedy skills to the next level! These students were able to design, rehearse, and preform a one-act play in the span of only three weeks. Photos above display their creative sets, props and more! Their confidence was incredible as they mastered the playful story of why Pandora opened the famous box!

Musical Theatre Production: Roald Dahl’s Willy Wonka Jr.:

Another musical involving candy and golden tickets, but this time, produced in just three weeks. Students dazzled audience members with their incredible portrayal of Willy Wonka! From the Golden Ticket reveals to the Willy Wonka’s Factory, this cast gave excitement and joy with every move!

Theatre Design Intensive I:

These talented students in our Theatre Design Intensive mastered all areas of theatrical design! Led by their teachers and guest artists, these students completely designed our summer production of Roald Dahl’s Willy Wonka Jr.! Their creativity was incredible as they explored set pieces, lighting cues, stage management and more!

Shakespeare on the Green: As You Like It:

This fully outdoor camp focused on producing Shakespeare’s As You Like It in Wheelock’s own version of Shakespeare on the green.
