Rooted in process-based story drama, students are introduced to the actor’s tools of body, voice, mind and imagination. Students develop characters, solve creative problems and enter the world of the story. Students have fun while also developing valuable literacy and life skills such as communication, critical thinking, collaboration, focus and creativity. Each session, there is a new theme to spark the imagination, creating a fun, new experience each class!

April Vacation Program

Page to Stage: The Three Little Aliens & the Big Bad Robot (Grades Pre-K to 1)

Get ready to blast off on an adventure that is out of this world! Inspired by the funny and fantastical retelling of the classic three little pigs story, The Three Little Aliens and the Big Bad Robot, students will work together to imaginatively bring the story from “page to stage”. Through creative movement, imagination, and hands-on art activities, students will travel across the galaxy without ever leaving their classroom on this interactive theatre experience specially designed for our youngest students. A final demonstration for family and friends will take place on the last day of class.

Page to Stage: Time Warp Trio (Grades 1 to 3)

Calling all Time Travelers! Over the course of the week, students will work as playwrights, actors, and designers creating scenes inspired by the Time Traveling (and rib-tickling) Series from award-winning author Jon Scieszka. Students will learn first-hand what it takes to bring a story from page to stage. When in the world will this class take us? A final demonstration for family and friends will take place on the last day of class.
Students will attend a 1pm matinee performance of our main stage production of A Wrinkle in Time.

We will kick-off our summer program with a rousing week-long exploration of the theatrical world of the circus. Professional Boston area circus artists will lead classes each day in circus skills such as clowning, juggling, tumbling, spinning plates, hula hoops, acrobatics, Chinese yo-yo, and more! In partnership with Cirque Us, students will learn the skill and storytelling involved in contemporary circus performance. All together, making for a three-ring circus of an experience!

A fun and physical introduction to the fundamental building blocks of drama (body, voice, mind, and imagination). Using Trickster Tales as a jumping-off point to spark and support the creative process, the characters will fly off the page as students participate in movement exercises, story reenactments, theatre games, improvisation, role-playing, music, dance, and visual arts.

Mini Musical: Annie Kids

This program is a fast-paced intensive for young people ready to take the stage. In three weeks, students will work together to perform a 30-minute version of Annie. While working on this musical, they will advance their acting, singing, and dancing skills while also learning more about production elements such as sets, props, costumes, and sound and light design.

About the show:
Based on the popular comic strip and adapted from the Tony Award-winning Best Musical, with a beloved book and score by Tony Award-winners, Thomas Meehan, Charles Strouse, and Martin Charnin, Annie KIDS features everyone’s favorite little redhead in her very first adventure. With equal measures of pluck and positivity, little orphan Annie charms everyone's hearts despite a next-to-nothing start in 1930s New York City. Annie is determined to find the parents who abandoned her years ago on the doorstep of an orphanage run by the cruel Miss Hannigan. Annie eventually foils Miss Hannigan's evil machinations, finding a new home and family in billionaire Oliver Warbucks, his personal secretary, Grace Farrell, and a lovable mutt named Sandy.

Happily Ever After? In this three-week interdisciplinary theatre arts program, students will bring the stories of their favorite fairy tale characters to life. Through story drama, students will use their bodies, voices, and imaginations to create big, bold characters such as giants and wicked witches, princes, and fairy godmothers. Through exploring the essential elements of fairy tales, students will collaboratively create an original fractured fairytale. Finally, artistic imaginations will come out to play as students design and create simple props, costumes, and scenery to complete their Once Upon a Time world.

Inspired by Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, students will learn to “sing a story” by exploring the various voices that can be produced by using the appropriate vocal technique. Students will connect the voice to posture, gesture, and full-body movement through improvisation to create vivid characters. They will “dance a story” by learning to use creative movement to bring a story to life.

Through hands-on experiences students will explore the art of design and then, using acting, music, and movement students will bring their designs to life.

Through creative movement inspired by cool cats and other favorite pets, students will purr, wag, and wiggle as they explore different ways of moving in a celebration of self-expression. In our Music Movers classes, dancing to the beat of your own drum is encouraged! About the show:
​​Disney’s Finding Nemo KIDS is a 30-minute musical adaptation of the beloved 2003 Pixar movie Finding Nemo, with new music by award-winning songwriting team Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez. Marlin, an anxious and over-protective clownfish, lives in the Great Barrier Reef with his kid Nemo, who longs to explore the world beyond their anemone home. But when Nemo is captured and taken to Sydney, Marlin faces his fears and sets off on an epic adventure across the ocean. With the help of lovable characters such as optimistic Dory, laid-back sea turtle Crush, and the supportive Tank Gang, Marlin and Nemo both overcome challenges on their journey to find each other and themselves. Featuring memorable songs such as “Just Keep Swimming,” “Fish Are Friends Not Food,” and “Go With the Flow,” Finding Nemo KIDS brings a vibrant underwater world to life on stage in a story full of family, friendship, and adventure.
