Set in 1930s New York City during the Great Depression, Annie is the heartwarming story of a young orphan girl with unwavering optimism and a belief that brighter days are always ahead. Living under the harsh care of the bitter Miss Hannigan, Annie dreams of reuniting with her parents. Her life takes an unexpected turn when she is invited to spend Christmas with billionaire Oliver Warbucks.

Sunday, 11/23 โ Tabling Event
Before Annie starred in a musical, she was the main character in her own comic strip. At the educational table in the lobby, you’ll have the chance to make your very own comic too! Your art will be added to a communal collage of comic strips about our families and our hopes for the future.
Gallery Exhibit โ Annie: A Rags to Riches Story
Since her first appearance in James Whitcomb Rileyโs 1885 poemย โLittle Orphant Annie,โ the red-headed heroine has been reborn time and againโacross comic strips, radio broadcasts, film, and Broadway. Each retelling reflects the changing dreams and anxieties of its era, transforming Annie into a distinctly American symbol of endurance and optimism. This exhibition exploresย Annie as a multimedia and intergenerational icon. From Depression-era imagery and political posters to vintage toys and stage props, the objects on display trace how Annieโs story has evolved alongside the nationโs shifting social and cultural landscape. The exhibitionโs design moves between the stark world of the orphanage during the Great Depression and the warmth of the Warbucksโs home during the Christmas season, mirroring the broader movement from hardship to hope that has defined her journey for more than a century. Through its mix of historical artifacts and popular media,ย Annie: A Rags to Riches Storyย invites visitors to consider why this character continues to resonate across generations. How have the values of resilience, family, and faith in โtomorrowโ adapted to new times and challenges? What does Annieโs enduring story reveal about Americaโs own search for hope and reinvention?
